Sandra Scalise Juneau Speaker Feb 9 NLS  Meeting

A native New Orleanian and St. Tammany Parish resident since 1983, Sandra Scalise
Juneau has followed her passion for Louisiana’s multi-cultural heritage, celebrating our local cuisine traditions as a journalist and Culinary Arts instructor.

Author of the “Bonne Bouchee” culinary series, her published features have appeared in Louisiana Kitchen & Culture, Inside Northside, Inside New Orleans and The Italian American Digest. Juneau is currently under contract to Louisiana State University Press for the Spring, ’21 publication of her book, “Celebrating the Feast of Saint Joseph, A Tradition of Promise, Petition, Thanksgiving”.

St Tammany Parish Library Covington Opening

Wed., Feb. 5  10 am – 2pm Ribbon Cutting 11 am

STPL will cut the ribbon on the renovated branch at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5. We’ll have a Grand Opening Celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, with fun for all ages. Kiddos will have fun with The Samba Man. Teens can learn how to make their own screen print to take home. Adults can meet author Erica Spindler and do Zumba [1 pm] with Covington Mayor Mark Johnson. It’s going to be a blast! We hope to see you there!

Books, music, mimes and such—lots of fun and it’s FREE.

Date and Time: Saturday, November 10, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Place: Downtown Baton Rouge at the State Library of Louisiana, the State Capitol, the Capitol Park Museum and nearby locations. 701 N. 4th Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70802

Parking: In addition to parking along the street, you will find parking lots near the Capitol. The Galvez Parking Garage (see our overview map) will be available as well.

Sunday, October 14 – Susan Larson of “The Reading Life”


The guest speaker is someone special: Susan Larson. She’s the host of “The Reading Life” on National Public Radio’s local station — WWNO, 89.9 FM — and she’s the former longtime book editor for the Times Picayune.

Date and Time: Sunday, October 14, 3-5 p.m.

Place: The Parish Hall of Christ Episcopal Church, 129 N. New Hampshire Street, Covington

Cost: If you’re not a member of Northshore Literary Society, I believe the suggested donation is $10. (I think membership is $35.00 annually.)

Refreshments: Beverages — usually iced tea and wine — are served, along with nice cookies and other tasty treats.
